FAMILY VALENTINE DINNER IDEAS
Before you start planning the menu for your Valentine’s Day dinner, let’s talk about the table. This is my favorite part! Here is what you need.
Valentine’s day table setting
Since this table is intended for families, it has to be child-friendly. Both fun and easy to clean.
Child-friendly Valentine’s Day table runner
Next, take some Seersucker from the fabric shop and run it down the center of the table. I bought a yard and cut it in half, then I gathered one side from the center to the ends and then the same on the other side.
As you can see, the seersucker runner hangs only over 10 inches on the sides.
Valentine’s day centerpiece
Next, we’ll create an inexpensive centerpiece that you can also use as a decoration in your home. First, paint a charger from the dollar tree with white chalk or acrylic paint and place it in the center.
Then take a round cake pan and paint the outside. Then flip them over on the charger.
Next, place Valentine’s Wooden Gingerbread Village in the center around the edge. Here are instructions for making it Valentine’s Day wooden gingerbread houses. They are very easy to make with a 2 x 4 piece of wood and paint.
Now, take battery operated mini lights, place the battery exactly in the center and work the light outside the village with duct tape to hold it down.
Finally, add some Easter grass around the village. I used the grass from my girl’s Easter baskets. Any color of grass would be pretty.
Valentine’s day place settings
The place setting is a more personal centerpiece for each person. I love creating place settings where each guest or family member gets a souvenir.
This year I found adorable cupcake stands and went looking for a stunning cupcake. After asking friends on my Instagram for recommendations in my area, I was led to do so Les Cheris bakery. Impressive! Wait for us to finish this place setting so you can see this delicious little treasure.
First, set up a charger or a larger plate. I used Coton Colors ruffled buffalo check plate from mine Christmas tree Centerpiece post. One idea to save a few dollars is to buy more Dollar Tree chargers and paint a buffalo check on them.
Now set the cupcake stands off-center on each plate as we are now making doily envelopes to sit next to the cupcake stand.
How to Make Heart Doily Envelopes
You will be surprised how easy it is to make heart doilies envelopes. Just take the largest heart doily and follow the lines and arrows in this photo.
You just fold the pages first. Then from top to bottom and with a glue stick let the glue run from top to bottom and fold over. Actually, I fold it over first and score the edges, then I let the glue in and fold it over again.
Then I put something heavy on top like a book and give it about 10 minutes to dry really well. Then I fold the top down and scratch the edge again. Then I put them on the plate next to the cupcake stand.
Now back to the table setting. Set up your cutlery and then your glass or cups. It all depends on who is sitting at your table. If you’re looking to make a kid-friendly, chic Valentine’s Day table, I would consider disposable clear cups.
Valentine’s Day dinner family activity
I love to combine activities with table landscapes and this gives everyone a chance to spread some kindness and is a part of the table runner.
Just walk line in the middle of the table and add painted clothespins about two inches apart. You have to push them line under the centerpiece or you can add it before you start building the centerpiece.
Next, paint the tips of the clothespins with Valentine paints. I used different shades of muted pink and muted yellow.
Lastly, add the medium and small doilies to each clothespin. Doesn’t that look pretty?
Now, after dinner, any person can write a love note, word of encouragement, thank you, or whatever is in their heart to anyone they want on the doily and put it in the envelope to give to someone that is something special.
Valentine’s Day cupcake place setting centerpiece
This table called for a cupcake that would steal the show. It has to be a bigger cupcake at 4 “and although it is smaller than a cake, it needed a chic cake look like a wedding cake.
I was so happy when I found Les Cheris bakery! Their cakes are amazing and the best part is that they are gluten and dairy free. Talk about a win-win!
You came up with these cute treasures and it was the icing on the cake if you know what I mean.
If you are in the Tallahassee area, you can find out more about them on the Les Cheris website. If you’re not into this area, I recommend making or buying a 4 inch cupcake and adding chocolate-coated cookies and strawberries on top. The main thing is to spice up your cupcake with details.
This cupcake has a heart-shaped macaron, a chocolate-covered strawberry and edible gold foil, a pink frosting rose, red starts and glitter.
Once you have your cupcakes, place them on the cupcake stand just before dinner. If you have toddlers, you can bring out the cupcakes after dinner.
Aren’t they the nicest cupcakes you’ve ever seen? !!
You know what? We’re all done with this Valentine’s Day table landscape, so let’s talk about the menu.
