DIY stair makeover | Hometalk

Do you have stairs that look tired and need some love? With some liquid starch and fabric, you can give these stairs a fun, bright, and colorful makeover. The nice thing about this project is that it can use any type of fabric. You can choose from one print, two prints, or as many prints as you have riser. You can also use different textures of fabric … maybe burlap is what you decorate with, or a beautiful fabric for home decor. The possibilities are endless! The best part? It is completely removable without damaging the original surface … AND … the fabric can also be used on another project (after it has been washed).
The full tutorial with additional tips and tricks can be found on the blog:

The stairs to my quilting studio and office were standard … pine steps and white risers. It didn’t take long before I had to constantly wipe scratch marks and the like from the straps. Since my quilting studio is my “happy place”, I really wanted the entrance to be bright and cheerful and while climbing, I prepared myself to put my creative hat on for a great day.

First, put some liquid starch in a leftover ice bucket.

Dip the strip of fabric in the starch.

Quickly remove the fabric and squeeze out the excess starch.

Apply it to the riser with your fingers to remove any bubbles and wrinkles.

Once dry, cut off the excess on the sides.

Have fun with your new staircase!
