A look back in timeMart 20, 2021
Today I thought it would be great fun to take a look back at the past. We all start somewhere, and I often hear that people don’t start putting one foot in front of the other because their work isn’t good enough. They won’t start a blog because they don’t have a good enough camera. They won’t do XYZ because they don’t think they are enough.
Trust me, you are enough
I wanted to give you a look back at the past, starting in 2009 when Glen and I first moved in together. We had no savings and no money to buy anything new. Our sectional sofa was $ 100 away from Craigslist and we made sure it worked. And yes, this is baby glen.
We barely had enough money to rent, so everything was either frugal or homemade. I made our padded headboard below as well as all of our pillows in our house.
Shortly afterwards we had two little boys who were very old (15 months apart) and although our bank account grew slightly, my time was shortened and I had less time to create a nice home.
We lived in a beach house for a very short time (my favorite house so far). It was an oceanfront apartment with a wraparound deck. We lived there before moving to Saskatchewan for Glen’s work.
We moved to Saskatchewan and then back again. It only took six months as we were unsuitable for the Saskatchewan oil fields.
With no vacancies for Glen on the island, we moved to a newer townhouse on the Delta-Surrey border. In 2012 my paint color is pretty questionable but you can see the bones of my style looking through it. I always seem to decorate with clean lines and vintage / thrifts.
In mid-2014 we were finally able to return to the island! We couldn’t find anything to rent and had to camp in our trailer tent for a whole month. I was 25 weeks pregnant so it wasn’t as fun as it sounds. Finally, just before the end of the month, we found one of the few three bedroom houses on the market. Below are photos when I started blogging.
And then one of my favorite houses that we moved to in 2017. The Ocean Grove Rancher. We loved this house but unfortunately it was launched 8 months after we moved in.
and finally we moved into our almost three year old home.
When we moved in, I cried. I didn’t know how to make it look beautiful. We live in a small town with very few properties to rent and at the time it was the only 3 bedroom house on the market.
I remember when we first moved in, half of our furniture was in our house and the other half was still in the moving van and I just sat on our sofa and cried. I wanted to pack everything up and go live in a hotel. I just couldn’t take it. But fast forward 28 months and we’ve made this home our own.
When I look at these photos I can’t believe I put what I did online. But I am also proud of myself. People don’t care what type of camera you have or how perfectly your home is designed – they just want to be inspired.
So go ahead, start this blog or this Instagram and start inspiring!
