13 Stunning Hair Colors to Try – Mom ThrivesMart 20, 2021
It’s no secret that 2020 officially kicked my ass and made me a stronger woman. I finally accepted myself in all of my curvy, geeky, and beautiful glory. Part of that change was I finally hugged my love for colored hair.
Towards the end of 2020, I decided I needed a change. After leaving my hair untouched by color for a year and a half, I bleached it and dyed it light pink. The color lasted for a couple of weeks, which is what pink always does in my hair.
At this point, I turned light purple and I loved every minute of my new hair.
If you are looking for the same kind of change in your life I have some wonderful ideas for you. But let’s talk a little about hair care and home coloring first.
Should you bleach your hair yourself?
My answer to that is ALWAYS a firm no. You risk hair loss, hair loss, blotchy color, and loads of damage that bleach your hair itself. It is always better for you to go to a professional to get your hair done.
Personally, I bleach my hair at home because I’m so cheap. I also have thick hair that is not easy to break. Other than that, I’m not a professional.
If you want to bleach your hair at home, search for professional hair stylists on YouTube for tips and tricks on how to deal with your exact hair texture.
Best hair care products for light colored hair
I personally use Biotera Ultra Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner. You can find these at Sally’s Beauty Supply or on Amazon below.
With all other hair care products, you need to look for products that are free of sulfates and parabens. These chemicals can actually fade faster. Hence, it is important that your hair care product not include them when trying to get long-lasting color.
If possible, only wash your hair twice a week and wash it in cold water. Avoid heat styling to keep the color bold. I can’t do this cold water trick personally, so just do what you can.
Fun hair inspiration for 2021
Below are my top tips for those looking to make a small change in 2021. I will always recommend that you save samples on your phone to show your stylist and get it done professionally. The color will last longer, there will be less damage, and the color will be more even.
Pink with dark roots
If you have dark hair like me, this type of color option could be perfect for you. It allows for growth and as long as the pink (or whatever color you choose) lasts, you can allow a longer period of time between touch ups.
Deep sea green hair
I’ve always wanted to try a deep sea green like this, but I’m always scared of what the fading would look like in my hair. I just have to do one of them because it’s really nice.
Just do the bottom
If you don’t want to dye your entire head, this peek-a-boo look is a great option. Just dye a small section under the layers of your natural hair. People would only see the color if your hair is up or if it sways.
Purple was my choice for my hair this year. I wanted to keep it simple for now as I still can’t go to a real hair salon and probably won’t be able to do so until later in 2021.
Make it look like a sunrise
I love how light this hair is, and it’s attractive to have a bright and cheerful look for 2021. If you are trying this at home, I highly recommend that you get a friend to help you achieve this look.
The sunflower melt
I love sunflowers, so this style caught my eye right away. It’s a unique look that is still bright and fun. It’s also great so you can wait longer between touch ups.
The blue phoenix
This really makes me feel like a phoenix is rising. So if you feel like you are rising from the ashes of 2020, this could be the color.
Go bold red
A beautiful bold red like this is on my list of colors to try in my hair. I like how light it is and it looks amazing on most skin tones.
Pink and teal
This fun mix is a great way to get the best of two colors you love. Pink and teal are perfect choices here, but you can also get creative and mix up other color options.
This hair reminds me of CandyLand and the rainbow of colors from the board game. Combine a mix of light and pastel colors in small sections for a great rainbow look.
Hair looks like fire
If you want something fun and bright, make your hair look like fire. It’s a bright color option that allows you to add highlights and lowlights for a nice mix.
Rock green curls
I love the brightness in these green locks. It’s the perfect look for a punk, grunge, or rocker style. So, if you just want to turn things upside down, this is a great look to try.
Become a mermaid
This beautiful mix of dark blue to sea foam green is just perfect. For those who dream of lying on the beach instead of being stuck inside, it’s the perfect look.
Hair colors to try this year
With all of these different options, you have a lot to choose from. Are you going to make your hair look like a flame, stay cool as the ocean, or maybe unfold the full rainbow of colors? Whatever your heart desires, right?
Remember to use paraben- and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to help your hair color last longer. Once a week, mixing your hair dye with a conditioner and deep conditioning your hair can help keep your hair lighter for longer.
